After battling a tough Scarborough squad in Metro League playoffs and advancing to the Semi Finals, Spoolon tried their luck in the annual spring tune up for Provincials in Brampton.
On Friday night a baffled Cobourg squad that in the words of Coach Pete Kelly "did not play that bad" came up short loosing 5-1 to a strong Dundas squad. The loss but Cobourg in a precarious situation for Saturday as they needed to come up big.
The second game of the round robin pitted Cobourg against Etobicoke and with consistent play ended in a 3-0 victory.
Saturday night was do or die for both Cobourg and Scarborough two teams that had built up a sometimes ugly rivalvary over the past few weeks. Cobourg again proved they could win when needed dropping Scarborough 2-1 and advancing to the Semi Finals.
Perth was the only opponent stopping Cobourg from a birth in the final for the second straight year. Finally after 4 minutes of sudden death overtime Cobourg found the mesh to advance with a 1-0 win.
Revenge is sweet or so they say as Cobourg dropped their round robin nemissis, Dundas 2-1 to capture the renound crown.
Cobourg now prepares for the league semi finals at York University on Saturday evening.
